Avoid Police Harassment

February 13, 2011 by

We all were raised up to submit to authority no matter how the people with authority do to us. These are the groups of people, given task to take care of our lives and protect us from being harmed. One of these groups of people is the police department. The sad truth is that even police officers are men with imperfections and some of the crooked bad cops could ruin the reputation of the whole department by harassing honest civilians. Since more people are reporting about police harassment in various forums and blogs, it seems that police harassment cases have increased to an alarming rate. If you know someone who has just been harassed by police with no reason or you have just experienced one, you should report this to the police department in your area. In the meantime, you might be interested in reading the advices below that might prevent you from being harassed by police or at the least, minimize the effects.

1. Comply with the local laws or regulations before you set off to drive your automobile on the road. This could include wearing seat-belt, having non-tinted windows (in some areas, tinted windows are banned), assuring that your license plate lights are working properly. Make sure that no police or no one would be able to accuse you for violating the laws/regulations.

2. Avoid going out alone at night. Taking some friends along who share the same destination is a good thing as bad cops usually target individual who drives alone at night.

3. When you are stopped by the police, you need to remember as many details as you could, including their face, the type of vehicle they are riding/driving, the place where they stop you and the time. By doing this, when you report those bad cops to the city police department, they have better chance of figuring out who the bad cops are.

Protect yourself from being harassed by police and make sure that you do nothing that could make things worse. Cursing, saying bad words would not help. It is important to act politely and respectful when you meet police officers.

You might also consider suggesting carrying a recording device such as a camera, video camera or voice recorder because it may be the only thing that keeps them out of prison after encountering one of today’s officers.
